## Uncountable Academic Nouns In English, certain high-frequency academic nouns are strictly **uncountable**. Common Candidate Mistake:

"Scientists conducted many researches into renewable energy."

Band 8+ Correct Form:

"Scientists conducted extensive research into renewable energy."

Why: 'Research' is uncountable; use 'extensive research' or 'numerous research studies'.
Common Candidate Mistake:

"The laboratory purchased several new equipments."

Band 8+ Correct Form:

"The laboratory purchased several new pieces of equipment."

Why: 'Equipment' is uncountable; use 'pieces of equipment' or 'items of equipment'.
Common Candidate Mistake:

"The internet provides users with many useful informations."

Band 8+ Correct Form:

"The internet provides users with a vast amount of useful information."

Why: 'Information' is uncountable and never takes a plural 's'.
Common Candidate Mistake:

"They received an useful feedback from the examiner."

Band 8+ Correct Form:

"They received useful feedback from the examiner."

Why: 'Feedback' is uncountable; do not use 'a/an'.
Common Candidate Mistake:

"Industrial pollutions have contaminated the river."

Band 8+ Correct Form:

"Industrial pollutants have contaminated the river."

Why: Use the countable noun 'pollutants' (chemical substances) instead of pluralizing 'pollution'.
